The latest pairing from PuroMaduro.com features a spectacular red Zinfandel, Inconspicuous and my favorite Cuban cigar brand, Bolivar.  Of the litany of cigars hailing from the beloved island of Cuba there is but one that dares to offer full body and full flavor and it is Bolivar, which happens to be my main reason for calling it my favorite.  Most Cubans are medium with full flavor or mild with medium flavor but the smoke quality is the real lure.

The pairing partner, Inconspicuous is a red Zinfandel and one thing you have to love about that is its unique American qualities.  The closest family member of Zinfandel is Italian, Primitivo grape but the original is Croatian which has been scientifically confirmed with DNA evidence.  Once the grape vines took root in California they were cross pollinated to prevent root diseases and from that we are able to taste a uniquely American red wine that entices the senses with berries, smoky notes, and oak.

Together the Zinfadel and Bolivar offer a synergy of balance in that the wine lets the medium bodied cigar take center stage and the raw notes (cedar, tea, earth, mineral) blend well with the berry sweetness of the wine.
